What Renovateur is for

Saphir Médaille d'Or Renovateur is a leather-care cream. Saphir describes the product on its French site as containing beeswax, lanolin and mink oil for gentle cleaning, nourishment and protection. Consult the actual container and the maker's information for the formulation sold in your market.

This is an editorial product reference. We have not published a controlled comparison, numerical rating or long-term wear result for this entry.

Check your leather first

Use the shoe or item manufacturer's care advice alongside the product label. Do not assume a cream suits every surface simply because the item is described as leather. Suede, nubuck, patent and heavily coated materials have different requirements.

Absorbent or pale leather may change colour after a cream is applied. Test a small amount in an inconspicuous place and allow it to dry before treating the visible surface.

Where it fits in a routine

Remove loose grit first and address significant dirt using a method suitable for the finish. On compatible leather, use a thin application and follow the container's waiting and buffing directions. Do not saturate seams or keep layering product to chase a quick improvement.

Our shoe conditioning guide explains how to assess the leather, apply sparingly and decide when more treatment is unnecessary.

Care is different from repair

Neutral care products do not replace missing pigment, close structural cracks or rebuild worn fibres. A scuff may become less noticeable when the surface is cared for, but that is different from restoring an abraded finish.

For colour loss, compare the purpose of a compatible coloured shoe cream or colour restoration system. For a fuzzy surface, use the suede care guide.
